2016 – 2017 Auditions

PYGmalion Theatre Company is holding auditions for three shows in its 2016 – 2017 season on Saturday July 9, 2016 from noon to 4 pm at the Rose Wagner Center for the Performing Arts – Studio B.  To get a slot to audition, and scripts and sides please contact franpruyn@comcast.net.

 Mary and Myra

In the summer of 1875, Mary Todd Lincoln (the President’s widow) resides in an insane asylum, sent there by her only living son. Her progressive friend Myra Bradwell (America’s first woman lawyer) arrives to help Mary gain her release by exposing the injustices of her trial. But Myra’s motives and Mary’s sanity are both up for debate, as they grapple with their pasts and their perceptions of freedom and womanhood.

Two roles available:

MARY TODD LINCOLN, age range – 50’s, the widow of President Abraham, Lincoln; Kentucky accent

MYRA BRADWELL age range – 40’s, America’s first woman lawyer; a prominent figure in the “woman suffrage” movement; sterling New England background

Eleemosynary

Eleemosynary probes into the delicate relationship of three singular women: the grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to assert her independence through strong-willed eccentricity; her brilliant daughter, Artie (Artemis), who has fled the stifling domination of her mother; and Artie’s daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional intellect—and sensitivity—whom Artie has abandoned to an upbringing by Dorothea.

Silent Sky

The true story of 19th century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt plays out against a landscape of fierce sisterly love, early feminism, universe-revealing science, and a time when humans were called “computers.”

MARGARET LEAVITT – 30s, homebody, creative, sweet, sister

PETER SHAW – 30s, the head astronomer’s apprentice… and the man

ANNIE CANNON – 40s, the leader, terse and sure, grows into a firebrand
