Utah theater company tells a female post-war story in ‘Spark’

If you ask Adriana Broumas Farber why she joined the U.S. Marines in 2007, she’ll repeat the flip response she offered to military brass: “Temporary lapse of insanity.”

Her long answer is just as interesting, as it provides an understanding of the authenticity Farber brings to the role of a 20-something female veteran, Lexie Gilmord, struggling to adjust to civilan life, in Pygmalion Productions’ regional premiere of “Spark.”

“She comes with this understanding of what it’s like to be in the military, and with an intensity that I don’t think I could have found in an actor that doesn’t have that real-life experience,” says director Fran Pruyn. “Spark” will play Thursday through Nov. 15 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center’s Black Box Theatre.
