We are a Salt Lake City based theater company that produces theater that reflects issues, concerns and shared experiences in the lives of women. In this time of daily loss, struggle and suffering across the world, we want to remind you that the arts can fire minds, warm souls, dazzle and delight. We will want them to be there in times ahead, for us and especially for our children. As Ashley Wheater told us, "Live art, the magic of the theater, is one of the few things that can bring total strangers together in unique harmony, reminding us of our humanity."

OUR MOST RECENT GRANT APPLICATION WAS DENIED UNDER DEI PROVISIONS

For more than 20 years, PYGmalion Theatre Company has been honored to receive support from the State of Utah through the Utah Department of Arts and Museums. Recently, we were notified that our grant application has been denied because “it appears to be in conflict with Utah House Bill 261 Equal Opportunity Initiatives.” In other words, our mission—to produce plays that give voice to women—has been deemed discriminatory. We remain steadfast in our commitment to our mission, and we know our patrons share these values. Please support us with a donation at the link above.

October 2-17, 2026 Witch, written by Jen Silverman and directed by Morag Shepherd. In a tale that's perfect for Halloween, a charming devil arrives in the quiet English village of Edmonton to bargain for the souls of its residents in exchange for their darkest wishes. Elizabeth should be his easiest target, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town, but her soul is not so readily bought. As the devil returns to convince her — and then returns again — unexpected passions flare, alliances are formed, and the village is forever changed. An inventive retelling of a Jacobean drama, this sharp, subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by.

From the playwright – 

 When I first heard that Mary Todd Lincoln was sent to an insane asylum in 1875 by her only living son, Robert, and America’s first woman lawyer, Myra Bradwell, came to her aid I couldn’t believe that this had remained a secret of history.  I knew what I assumed the average person knew about Mary Todd Lincoln, and I knew nothing about Myra Bradwell.  I did however know a bit about “the vast territory” which is “sanity,” as Mary says to Myra in the play, “With its tallest of mountains and lowest of caves…” and I set out to answer this single question:  How did I feel about Mary Todd Lincoln, and why an asylum?  In many ways my play MARY AND MYRA is the embodiment of what has burrowed deep in my heart for Mary as I learned more about her.  It was only because of this discovery of love that I decided to tell this true story.  But I must add that my play is not realistic as much as it is the poetic essence of Mary and her confinement at Bellevue Place.
