About the NAACP Salt Lake Branch
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Salt Lake Branch was formed in 1919 to combat discrimination in local schools. Nationally, the NAACP works to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality and rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
What We Do:
Educate – We educate people as to their constitutional rights and take all lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with our constitution.
Get Politically Involved – By promoting voter registration, we encourage sponsorship for civil rights legislation and bills both locally and nationally.
Provide Resources – Our goal is to offer access to resources related to the reporting of discrimination and civil rights issues, including discriminatory payday lending.
Statement of Objective:
The purpose and aims of our organization shall be to improve the political, educational, social, and economic status of minority groups. In turn, to eliminate; racial prejudice, to keep the public aware of the adverse effects of racial discrimination, and to take lawful action to secure its elimination. Consistent with the efforts of the national organization and in conformity with the articles of Incorporation of the Association, its Constitution, and By-Laws as directed by the National Board of Directors.
